ABOUT

Located in a Catskills barn,

Ernestine Studios is a project by artist Lizzie Wright.
Ernestine produces fine art editions in collaboration with artists,
as well as applied arts, like the LOOP Lamp series.

HISTORY

Originally used for farming, the barn that houses Ernestine Studios has undergone many iterations over its century-long existence.

At one point, it was part of a larger “Camp Ernest” and housed a kiln where campers could fire ceramics.

After the original farmers/proprietors of Camp Ernest passed away, their son produced lamps in the barn for NYC hotels —a fact discovered from reading obituaries after the plan to work with lighting editions was already hatched! Another coincidence is the studio’s name.

Originally, Ernestine was intended as a feminized play on the name of the barn’s original owner, Ernest. However, we have since discovered that his daughter’s name was, in fact, Ernestine.
